Dr. Gizem Halis Kasap

 

Dr. Gizem Halis Kasap is a dual-qualified lawyer admitted to both the New York Bar (2019) and the Istanbul Bar (2015).

She has served as an Assistant Professor of Law in Private International Law at Ondokuz Mayıs University AFB School of Law since 2021, where she teaches Private International Law, International Arbitration Law, and Legal English, and mentors students in Moot Court competitions. She also served as Chief Editor of Ondokuz Mayis Law Journal.

As part of her post-doctoral research, she conducted studies at Waseda University School of Law in Tokyo, Japan (2025-2026) and at the University of Sussex, School of Law, Politics and Sociology (2023-2024), focusing on public interest litigation, cross-border data protection, and multinational corporate accountability.

Her research focuses on international arbitration, private international law, cross-border dispute resolution, and data protection. She is the author of a monograph published by Peter Lang (2022), and has published peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including the Netherlands International Law Review, the Journal of Dispute Resolution, and the University of Bologna Law Review.

She previously practiced at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, focusing on GDPR compliance, data privacy, and international business transactions.

Dr. Halis Kasap obtained her S.J.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) from Wake Forest University, School of Law (2020), and earned her LL.M. from Penn State University, Dickinson School of Law (2015), where she received the CALI Excellence Award for the highest distinction in International Litigation and Arbitration and completed a specialised Certification Program in Arbitration.

She graduated second in her class from Istanbul University, School of Law in 2013, earning summa cum laude with high honors (GPA: 3.9/4.0). She ranked in the top 0.01% among over 1.35 million students in the Turkish national university entrance exam, having also been admitted as the second-ranked student in her incoming class.

She is fluent in Turkish and English.
